Kilimanjaro-Umbwe Route

Trekking kilimanjaro from Umbwe route is most challenging tek of the all routes of kilimanjaro. the route starts from the south part of kilimanjaro offering you a fast ascent to high attitudes comparing to other routes, it is less tekked route on kilimanjaro and the descend from this route takes the Mweka route. The route takes the minimum of 6 days but Torch Adventures depending on our client preference we can add a day or two for the acclimatization purposes

Itinerary Day By Day

Arrive in Arusha/Moshi
Kilimanjaro-Umbwe Route. After your arrival at Arusha airport or Kilimanjaro international airport, we will meet you and transfer you to the hotel (BB) for the overnight. At the hotel, you will meet your guide for briefing about the trek and will checklist your mountain gears too
Day 1: Drive to Umbwe Gate Hike to Umbwe Camp
Kilimanjaro-Umbwe Route. Start your hike passing through forestry tracks to the dense rain forest on the steep narrow paths which will eventually lead you to the Umbwe camp for dinner and overnight. The camp is nestled in between the thick bushes.

Day 2: Leave Umbwe Camp hike to Barranco Camp
Kilimanjaro-Umbwe Route. After breakfast continues on the rockier terrain, Start gaining the view of the mountain as you ascend up. Pass through the Umbwe ridge which strangely beautiful scenery, enjoy the flat area as you approach the Barranco camp where you will have your dinner and overnight>

Day 3: Leave Barranco Camp hike to Karanga Camp
Kilimanjaro-Umbwe Route. After Breakfast descends the narrow valley of The Great Barranco wall, Climb the steep non-technical cliff of more than 800ft. there afterward cross series of valleys and hill until you reach Karanga valley. It is a short day allowing you the time for acclimatization the rest of the afternoon

Day 4: Leave Karanga Camp hike to Barafu Camp
After the Morning breakfast crosses the alpine desert, hit the Mweka trail junction through the rocky part to Barafu Camp. You will witness the view of Kilimanjaro peaks from a different angle here. Rest at Barafu Camp, enjoy the dinner and rest to prepare for the midnight summit hike

Day 5: Leave Barafu Camp hike to Uhuru Camp then down to Mweka Camp
Begin the push to the summit around midnight, the most mentally and physical challenge. ng part of the trek, expect the windy and cold weather. Frequently short breaks to be observed .the Sunrise rays from Mawenzi peak at Stella’s point will warm your heart and fill you with hope. Finally, reach Uhuru after an hour or two-hour hike from Stella’s point. Enjoy your victory take some Pictures and immediately start Descending to Mweka camp for Overnight.

Day 6: leave Mweka Camp hike down to Mweka gate
After the morning breakfast you will descend down to the Mweka gate where the TANAPA AUTHORITY will award you with the certificates for reaching Uhuru peak, then your driver will take you back to the hotel.
