Kilimanjaro-Shira Route

Trekking Kilimanjaro through Shira route is almost identical to lemosho route; in fact Lemosho route was born from Shira route. Though less favorable than lemosho due to its high attitude staring point, otherwise the route offer the amazing views and privacy due to the less crowd.

Itinerary Day By Day

Arrive in Arusha/Moshi
Kilimanjaro-Shira Route. After your arrival in Arusha airport or Kilimanjaro international airport, we will meet you and transfer you to the hotel (BB) for the overnight. At the hotel you will meet your guide for briefing about the trek and will checklist your mountain gears too
Day 1: Depart from the Hotel Drive to Shira Gate Hike to Simba Camp
Kilimanjaro-Shira Route. After the morning Breakfast and other final touch preparations we leave for Londorossi Gate, it is about 4 hours drive; complete registrations formalities. Continue to drive up a steep path to the Shira Gate where we will begin the hike. The hike starts through shrubs and giant heather until we reach Simba Camp for the dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Depart from Leave Simba Camp To Shira 2 Camp
Kilimanjaro-Shira Route. A fairly easy day for acclimatization. We begin by exploring the grassy moorland and volcanic rock formations on the plateau. Then we take a scenic path to the Shira Cathedral, a huge buttress of rock surrounded by steep spires and pinnacles, before settling at Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Depart Shira 2 Camp Hike To Lava Tower
Leave the Shira 2 camp after an energizing breakfast continue to the eastern rim passing the point leading to Kibo Peak, following the south east parts towards the lava Tower. Dinner and overnight at Lava Tower Campsite.

Day 4: Depart from Lava Tower To Barranco Camp
Leave the Lava Tower descend down to Barranco Camp. The day will end below an Elevation of where you began; it is a very important day for acclimatizing. Spend an overnight at Barranco Campsites.

Day 5:Depart from Barranco Camp Hike To Karanga Camp
After an energy enriching breakfast descend to the gorge of the Great Barranco wall, ascend the non-technical steps but fairly steep cliff. The view above from top of Barranco wall is very rewarding. Descend to Karanga Valley even steeper path. It is a short day meant for acclimatization.

Day 6: Depart from Karanga Camp Hike To Barafu Camp
Hike past karanga Valley locate the Mweka intersection Trail, continue with the rocky path to uncover The Barafu Campsite Where you will Camp for an early night, which will prepare for the next midnight Hike for the next summit day.

Day 7: Leave Barafu Camp Hike To Uhuru Peak Then Down Mweka Camp
Around midnight take the “polepole” Climb toward Uhuru peak passing through the Rebman and Ratzel Glaciers. Head North West and ascend towards Stella point crate rim. It is the most mentally and physically challenging p [art of the Trek. Keep the positive mind listen to your body and the guide carefully. The Sunrise rays will reward you with the warmth that will help push you to about an hour or two Hike to reach The Great Uhuru Peak (Freedom Peak). Indeed you will feel free here after your investment of time and money. Aafter you have enjoyed the rooftop of Africa, descend down to Barafu Camp for lunch and afterwards go directly down to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight. Enjoy the well earned sleep.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village and drive us back to the hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
