This is Africa’s fifth peak(4563m) and Tanzania second after Kilimanjaro, with lower slopes covered in dense highland forest, where colobus monkeys play and buffalos graze. The extinct volcano’s extensive base gives away to the beautifully formed crater. From the slope of the mountain, you can see the Momella lake and Ngurudoto crater. Climbing Mt Meru can be tricky but the absence of attitude sickness makes it the beautiful climb that you should look forward to making.
